Diwali Wishes At Louis Vuitton

I didn't even know what Diwali was until Friday, but it's quickly become one of my favorite holidays. WWD released a photo back in August describing Louis Vuittons plan to celebrate the Indian Festival of Lights by creating themed windows in stores worldwide. Polyvore is also holding a contest in honor of the occasion, but I never win those :( haha. I'm in love with Indian/Bollywood styles. I'm all about rich fabrics and vibrant colors. Pics of the actual window displays below.

PFW Yves Saint Laurent S/S 2011

Stefano Pilati has been both commended and criticized for the pieces that make up the Spring 2011 YSL show. The colors were a contrast of stark white and jet black with splashes of color, ruffles, fur, and sheer billowy printed fabrics. One dress in particular features an all over thumb print pattern, referencing tribalism and Pilati's ideas about "how fashion is a way for women to identify themselves, just as members of a tribe do. (Tim Blanks for Style.Com)" My favorite piece is the all white trenchcoat worn by Joan Smalls. The color is stunning against her skin, I love the accent of the neck scarf, and the fit creates a really sophisticated kind of retro chic silhouette. With so many other design houses showcasing bright and bold colors for spring, some think that this line was blah by comparison. Thoughts?

"Runaway" Confirms My Love of Phillip Lim

The Kanye West Runaway film/music video/thing was pretty epic. Not the plot or anything because I mean, come on. I was telecast on BET & MTV and it was written by Hype Williams. Plus I think it was meant to be a metaphor for Kanye's career or some nonsense. The brilliant part was the art direction and costuming (which Kanye had nothing to do with). Phillip Lim and Martin Izquierdo were in charge of the costume design. Izquierdo is the man behind the angel wings for the VS fashion shows. The art direction was done by Italian contemporary artist Vanessa Beecroft. One scene in the film is very similar to her performance piece VB65 which was performed in Milan in 2009. If you aren't familiar with the work of these individuals go google them immediately. They're brilliant. Selita Ebanks (VS Angel) was cast as the phoenix that falls to earth and starts dating Kanye, then, shunned by humanity, burns herself to return to her realm. Again, plot isn't the point. Her costume, or lack thereof, was gorgeous. Since we can't all prance around draped in ornate feathers, I've put together an outfit inspired by her look. It's the next best thing.

Sidenote: Apparently Ebanks was once engaged to Nick Cannon. How does he keep getting girls?

It's amazing, seriously.
